In ARC Raiders, the “Riven Tides” update has done more than refresh the battlefield—it has completely rewritten the rules of progression. For a long time, the dominant strategy was the so-called “rat” playstyle. Players would avoid combat, quietly collect high-value ARC Raiders gear or in u4gm, and extract without firing a shot.

With the new Expedition Window system, progression is no longer tied to the value of extracted items. Instead, it is driven by one metric above all else: Total Damage Dealt.

The End of Passive Looting

This is a deliberate shift in design philosophy. Instead of rewarding avoidance, the game now encourages direct engagement. Damage output has become the core currency of progression, forcing Raiders to abandon stealth-only routes and adopt aggressive combat loops.

Where players once optimized routes around rare items and safe extractions, they must now prioritize combat density. If you are not actively fighting ARC units, your progression will slow significantly.

Simply put: survival alone is no longer enough.

Loadouts Built for Damage

To adapt, your loadout must be redesigned around sustained damage output rather than stealth or inventory efficiency.

The standout weapon in this meta is the Bettina, which has become a top-tier choice following recent balance updates. Its increased effectiveness against ARC armor allows players to melt high-value targets like the ARC Turbine and Shield Walkers far more efficiently than before. In this system, consistency matters more than burst—every hit contributes directly to progression.

Utility choices are equally important. Deployable tools such as sentry turrets and explosive mines now serve as passive damage generators. Instead of being situational items, they effectively act as secondary DPS sources that continue working while you reposition or engage other threats.

Ammo economy also plays a larger role. High-capacity magazines and sustained-fire weapons outperform precision setups when the goal is maximizing total damage over time.

High-Yield Combat Zones

Not all areas are equal under this new system. Certain locations consistently offer higher ARC density, making them ideal for damage farming.

The Coastal Docks in Riven Tides remain one of the most efficient zones. Their layered vertical structure allows players to maintain safe elevation while continuously applying pressure to ARC units below.

Another key location is the Turbine Nesting Grounds, where large ARC machines provide extremely high health pools. These enemies function as damage sinks, allowing players to generate massive Expedition gains from a single extended fight instead of multiple small encounters.

In this meta, fewer enemies with more durability often yield better results than scattered skirmishes.

Survival in an Aggressive Ecosystem

The irony of a damage-based system is that it makes the world significantly more dangerous. Gunfire attracts attention. Noise draws both ARC reinforcements and opportunistic players looking for easy eliminations.

Every engagement becomes multi-layered: you are not only fighting AI threats but also managing third-party risk.

Smart positioning is essential. Engaging near extraction points allows you to convert damage farming directly into a safe exit once your objectives are complete. The value of collected items has decreased in importance compared to securing progression through extraction.

The “Riven Tides” update has transformed ARC Raiders into a far more aggressive experience. Progression now rewards those who actively seek combat and maximize efficiency under pressure.

Adaptation is no longer optional. Raiders who embrace the new damage-driven system will rise quickly. Those who cling to old loot-focused habits will find themselves with full packs of items—but empty Expedition progress.
