I remember that well, Kewan. My recollection is that you resisted any sort of compromise and removed yourself in protest, essentially denying your mates an experienced TO. :( I hope to be in Spain in 2019 if you want to travel up north to have a chat or whatever.

The problem with this demand for the NAF to host a rulebook is that no candidate is offering that. It would be interesting if we had a candidate that had differentiated himself on that issue, but we simply do not. So it seems that Spain will vote against someone who has protected the important parts of LRB. You will do this based on nothing more than some vague (and completely avoidable) vendetta from years past. I will not expect to dissuade you from this, but I feel you are making a mistake.

Now in English:

As you can see, people do not get involved too much with NAF's affairs. Of course, they do have their opinions, and they care to express them both in real life chats and in whatsapp groups, but most of the time they do not bother enough as to come here or even voting at the NAF's website. In adition to this, this time of the year is usually spent with the family and away from other tasks, so don't expect much participation anyway.

In my opinion the answer to this shouldn't be "if they cared enough, they would vote. If they don't, they should accept whatever comes out from the election process", which is something I have heard in the past. This lack of interest in NAF's affairs reflects people's feeling that the NAF is just a supplier of dice and tokens and a unfair ranking system. Most of the time people talk about the NAF as something completely alien to them. NAF should try to correct this and create an inclusion feeling among its members.

I try to argument that the NAF is about the players and their interests, but when we are told to bend the knee to every GW whim and that, "yeah, I agree we should have our own rulebook/block dice, but we can't because they would be angry. Next item in the agenda"... somehow I find it difficult to convince people to join in.

By the way, if we accept that the rankings are NOT representative of people's skills on the field, mainly because the matches have the same importance regardless of their date, and the rulebook... Then what is your problem for NOT accepting LRB6 as the last free available rulebook? You are telling us one of three things in order to play in NAF tournaments:
- Go and buy GW's documents
- Use your old rulebooks, but print an ever-growing document with modifications (that we will not describe at all), of which we have very little control
- Step out of the NAF, play as you want (your games won't be recorded anywhere) and stop disturbing

If there is any other option, please share it because I can't currently see it.

One last thing: There are MANY NAF tournments out there whose "custom rules" are completely nuts. This is a fact. We all know some. I will obviously not point to any tournament in particular, but there are some bizarre things that spoil the rankings much worse than having humans catchers at 70K and the rosters as we have known for years. You can't say the reason for excluding CRP is the rankings and fairness. To me this is more a thing of imposing an authority over the players, something I do not like. Regardless of our interest in the elections, having some hundreds of votes (let see if more than 300) do not give NAF's committee, nor the TD, that power. That authority over thousands of people cannot morally emanate from such a small number of votes scattered around the world.

Let's take we are 10000 active coaches. 300 are more votes than any of the past winning candidates got in their elections. This is a 3% of the members. I don't know how it is in other countries, but here if you try to rule a country in an imposing way with such a percentage of suporters, the people will take it as a joke and cheat whenever they can. That's why I think more freedom is the way to go. It's not as if we were investing millions depending on the rankings, so let people play as they prefer.

Gaixo, you're considering that Spanish members will vote in group? Following the direction that anyone points us?

You're wrong. A lot of us, sadly, won't vote. Some of us will vote Driesfield. And some of us (like me) will vote you.

Why? These are my points of view:

- You're taking your time and effort to come here and talk with us, and listen to us. The other candidate has not done it.

- My relation with you has always been nice through NAF Tournament Series. You've always been helpful, friendly and kind.

- It can prove you (and some others, it seems) that we the Spanish members are not a herd guided by a single wise powerful shepherd.

I appreciate those votes and your messages.

And apologies for any assumptions about the Spanish vote. I was telling Manuel recently that I have always depended on Spain in these elections, so I am glad that I have kept a few of you. :push:

(I also understand Manuel's position. We just disagree about what the NAF's priorities should be.)

I have updated my previous post, with the Spanish version and a few points that were left out because of the lack of time.

I must point out: I am happy with Nate's work so far, and even happier seeing him here around. I am worried about some recent comments on revising the Piling On RR use, and the apparent loss of independence I am seeing in the NAF towards GW. And the fact that no one seems to care about it.

No problem in drinking that beer Nate, Anyway you should improve your memory if you want to be a good president of the NAF, or at least tell things as they happened, and not just tell half the story

Ojalá me equivoque.
